The Drawer Challenge/El Desafío De Los Cajones (#34)

Previously In Out Of Place:

After arriving at the room Woody mentioned, the guys entered, looking for Batman in any spot they could think of while exploring the room. Since Woody knows the place, he led the place but left the major search to Felix, Crash and Stitches. Unfortunately the guys couldn’t find Batman where they looked, but before they gave up, Woody mentioned a place in the room where Batman could be, along with a new challenge for Felix, Crash and Stitches.


Felix: The what not?

Woody: The Drawer Challenge

Crash: And what’s that dude?

Woody: The white wall you guys mention, isn’t a wall, those are drawers, but there is a catch

Felix: Like if we aren’t used to those already…

Crash: So what’s the catch man?

Woody: Those drawers won’t allow you to just climb them and reach the top, these drawers don’t like to be climbed, and therefore, they move to prevent anyone to use them to reach the top

Felix: What do you mean?

Woody: The drawers seem still now, but if you start climbing them, they will start moving back and forth, at different times, so it will be really hard if not impossible to reach the top

Crash: So, if it’s impossible, why are you suggesting it man?

Woody: Because if you plan to check on that place I told you, you need to know what you’re going against

Felix: Ok, so let me see if I got this straight, if we start climbing through the drawers, they will start opening and closing themselves to prevent us of going up, and that’s the only way to reach the top where you say Batman may be?

Woody: Yeah, that’s pretty much it

Felix: And there is no other way?

Woody: As of now, nope

Felix: I don’t know you guys, but this is getting out of hand, whatever challenge we overcome, the next one is even tougher all the time

Crash: True…

Felix and Crash looked at the drawers in a disappointed look, like if they were giving up already.

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: I don’t know yet Stitches

Woody: What did he say?

Crash: He asked if we were giving up already

Woody: Are you?

But Crash didn’t reply.

Felix: Has any toy overcome this challenge before?

Woody: Only a few

Felix: And what happened to the rest?

Woody: They kept falling; some of them got injured or trapped inside the drawers

Felix: What’s the worst that can happen if we try to go ahead with the challenge?

Woody: Well, anything can happen, you can just fall, get hit by the drawers, get trapped inside the drawers, even crushed

When Woody said the word “crushed” he noticed how Crash and Felix were shocked at the possibility and tried to fix it by saying:

Woody: But that has never happened before

But that didn’t help matters, both Felix and Crash looked defeated, Stitches looked at them like waiting for them to say they were going ahead with the challenge, but as the time passed, he seemed to grasp that maybe that wouldn’t happen after all.

Woody sat down and lowered his hat, covering his face but still watching at the guys, Stitches kept waiting for Crash or Felix to make a move, Crash also sat down and looked at his sneakers and Felix stared at the drawers while thinking a lot of something.

After a long while of silence, Felix finally said:

Felix: Ok Woody, so how do I start climbing up the drawers?

Woody: So you’re going through with this?

Felix: Yes

Crash and Stitches were surprised to hear this, but Crash was the most surprised. He approached Felix and said:

Crash: What are you doing man?

Felix: I’m going up there and look for Batman, what else does it seem I’m doing?

Crash: But you heard what Woody said! Its crazy dangerous!

Felix: Yeah, I heard him

Crash: And you don’t care if you don’t make it and end up hurt or destroyed?

Felix: Yes I do

Crash: Then you’re not making any sense dude!

Felix: Look, we’re supposed to be a gang, which means that we’re supposed to take care of each other. Batman hit a low spot when he found out we’re toys, and it’s annoying to you and me that he can’t just accept it, but we have to accept the fact that he feels bad because of that. We’ve come a long way to look for him, and if we quit now, we’re not his friends, and I’m sure that if it was me or you the one in his place, he wouldn’t rest until he found us. If we quit now and later we find that something happened to him because we didn’t try hard enough to find him, we don’t deserve to exist, so, I’m going up


Crash was surprised to hear such words from Felix, and he realized how right Felix was, how could they call themselves friends of Batman if they didn’t do what’s needed to help him?

Woody grinned discretely upon hearing Felix’s words.

Felix: Woody, how do I climb up?

Woody walked towards the drawers and pulled out the one nearest to the floor, then said:

Woody: Climb this one and the next drawer will open for you to reach it, but once you do, the real challenge will begin

Felix approached the drawer and was about to climb it when Crash said:

Crash: We’re going with you Felix, right Stitches?

Stitches: Wa!

Felix: Didn’t you say that this is crazy dangerous?

Crash: Yeah, but what you said is true, and I don’t want you to find Batman without me!

Felix: Alright then, let’s go

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: Oh yeah, are you coming Woody?

Woody: I think it’s better if you guys go ahead without me, I don’t think your friend will be too pleased to see me, and someone should stay here to make watch, in case something happens

Crash: Alright then man

Woody: Good luck guys

Felix climbed the drawer Woody pulled out, and as soon as he did, the drawer above opened halfway.

Felix: And here we go

He slowly climbed the second drawer and once he was inside it, he waited for a moment to see if something happened but nothing did. He then looked down and said:

Felix: Ok guys, come on up!

Crash placed Stitches on his back and climbed the first drawer, once they were inside it, the drawers started shaking but then they stopped. This scared Stitches and Crash, so they proceeded to the drawer where Felix was with caution.

As soon as Crash placed his feet on the drawer, all the drawers began shaking violently, suddenly they stopped.

Crash: This is giving me the…

But before Crash could finish his sentence, the four drawers above the guys started moving back and forth, opening and closing at a fast speed and each drawer moving independently of the other three, making a lot of noise.

Crash: …creeps

Felix: I’m going up first

Crash: What?

Since the noise made by the drawers was really loud, the guys couldn’t hear each other, so Felix had to shout what he said:

Felix: I said I’m going up first!

Crash: Ok!

Due to how fast the drawers were moving, Felix had to be careful and wait for the appropriate time to jump.

He waited until the drawer closed itself and then he jumped, the drawer opened and Felix managed to grab himself of it, the drawer closed itself again, pulling Felix along with it, and when it opened completely, Felix managed to get inside it.

Having watched how Felix managed to get on the drawer, Crash followed. He said:

Crash: Ok Stitches, our turn! Hang on tight to me!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: We’ll meet him on the top!

Stitches grabbed itself from Crash’s back, and Crash jumped to grab the drawer, but he jumped early and the drawer almost hit him in the face, he waited until the drawer was approaching him again and jumped, this time grabbing the drawer successfully, but when he tried to get inside the drawer, the drawer moved back and forth faster, trying to shake Crash off. Crash held tight and managed to get inside the drawer when it moved forward.

Crash: Whew, that was close!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash looked above, looking at how the other three drawers above him moved and said:

Crash: I don’t see Felix

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: I hope not and I don’t think so, if he had fell, we would have noticed and he is a cat, he is agile by nature

Suddenly Felix showed up, he was hanging from the second drawer from the top, trying to get inside it, he looked down for a moment and saw Crash, then moved his arm telling him to keep climbing and Crash nodded raising his thumb.

Felix was having a hard time trying to reach the last drawer, since the one he was hanging from, was moving faster than the others below it, and just grabbing on to it was a tough time. Felix hanged from the drawer for a while until the drawer started to slow down, when Felix noticed this, he made the effort and managed to get inside it, and then he looked above and sighed in relief as he had only one drawer left to climb.

In the meantime, Crash and Stitches managed to get inside the third drawer from the top and were aiming into reaching the second one. Crash jumped to reach the drawer, but the drawer didn’t move enough for Crash to grab it, it kept stopping half way. Crash decided to wait until the drawer moved to where he needed it to move, it took a while, but once it did, Crash jumped towards it and the drawer stopped suddenly once Crash managed to grab it. This caused Stitches to let go of Crash and fall into the fourth drawer.

Crash: Stitches!! Are you ok?!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: Hold on Stitches, Ill come down and get you!

Felix had now reached the first drawer from the top and was looking down when he noticed that Stitches was no longer with Crash, he noticed that Crash was about to go down and get Stitches, so he screamed:

Felix: Crash! Don’t go down!

Crash: But Stitches is down there!

Felix: Tell him to climb up!

Crash: He can’t do it on his own!

Felix: Yes he can!

Crash doubted for a moment what to do, but he decided to follow Felix’s idea:

Crash: Stitches, climb up to where I am!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: Don’t worry, Ill tell you when to jump!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: You can do this, come on!

Stitches: (Noises)

Crash: Just place yourself on the drawer’s edge, in the corner, and wait for the next drawer to be near you so you can jump!

Stitches looked scared, but he was willing to try and reach Crash. He jumped out of the drawer and reached the edge, then moved towards the corner.

Crash: Wait for it Stitches... Whoa!

The drawer, on which Crash was hanging, started moving back and forth again.

Stitches looked up and saw Crash trying to hang on to the drawer and Felix looking at him, telling him to come up.

Stitches waited for the drawer above him to reach where he was, and he concentrated on being ready to jump.

Just when he was about to, a strong shock was felt, and made the whole room shake. The shock distracted Stitches because he looked down to see what happened, then he heard Crash screaming:

Crash: Stitches!!!! WATCH OUT!!!!

And as soon as Stitches turned around to see the drawer, it was coming straight at him, he didn’t have time to react and the drawer pushed him away from the edge and he fell.

Before Felix and Crash could see what happened to him, all the drawers had open all the way, effectively blocking the view down.

Previamente en Fuera De Lugar:

Después de llegar al cuarto que Woody menciono, los chicos entraron, buscando a Batman en cualquier lugar que se les ocurriera mientras exploraban el cuarto. Como Woody conoce el lugar, el guió el camino pero dejo la búsqueda para Félix, Crash y Stitches.
Desafortunadamente los chicos no pudieron encontrar a Batman donde lo buscaron, pero antes de que se rindieran, Woody menciono un lugar en el cuarto donde Batman podría estar, junto con un nuevo reto para Félix, Crash y Stitches.

Félix: ¿El que?

Woody: El Desafió De Los Cajones

Crash: ¿Y eso que es mano?

Woody: La pared blanca que ustedes mencionan, no es una pared, son cajones, aunque hay un pero

Félix: Como si no estuviéramos acostumbrados a eso ya…

Crash: ¿Y cual es el pero pues?

Woody: Esos cajones no van a dejar que los escalen y lleguen a la cima así no mas, a esos cajones no les gusta que los escalen, y por lo tanto, se mueven para prevenir que alguien los use para llegar a la cima

Félix: ¿A que te refieres?

Woody: Esos cajones se ven quietos ahora, pero si te subes a ellos, se empezaran a mover hacia atrás y adelante, a ritmos diferentes, así que será muy difícil si no imposible el llegar a la cima

Crash: ¿Y si es imposible, para que lo sugieres mano?

Woody: Por que si tu plan es el checar en ese lugar que te mencione, necesitan saber a que se enfrentan

Félix: Ok, déjame ver si lo entendí bien, ¿si subimos por esos cajones, se empezaran a abrir y cerrar a si mismos para prevenir que los usemos para subir, y esa es la única forma de alcanzar la cima donde dices que es posible que este Batman?

Woody: Si, algo así

Félix: ¿Y no hay otra forma?

Woody: Por ahora, nop

Félix: No se ustedes chicos, pero esto se esta saliendo de control, cualquier reto que superemos, el que sigue siempre es mas difícil

Crash: Cierto…

Félix y Crash miraron a los cajones con una mirada de decepción, como si ya se estuvieran rindiendo.

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: Aun no se Stitches

Woody: ¿Qué dijo?

Crash: Pregunto si ya nos estábamos rindiendo

Woody: ¿Y se están rindiendo?

Pero Crash no respondió.

Félix: ¿Algún juguete ha superado este reto antes?

Woody: Solo unos pocos

Félix: ¿Y que le paso al resto?

Woody: Se caían; algunos se lastimaron o fueron atrapados dentro de los cajones

Félix: ¿Qué es lo peor que puede pasar si intentamos superar el reto?

Woody: Pues, cualquier cosa puede pasar, se pueden caer, pegarse con los cajones, quedarse atrapado dentro de uno, inclusive hasta aplastado

Cuando Woody dijo la palabra “aplastado” noto como Crash y Félix estaban aterrados ante la posibilidad y trato de arreglarlo diciendo:

Woody: Pero eso nunca ha pasado antes

Pero eso no ayudo mucho, Félix y Crash se veían derrotados, Stitches los miraba como si esperara que dijeran que lo iban a hacer, pero como el tiempo pasaba, parecía entender que tal vez eso no pasaría.

Woody se sentó y bajo su sombrero, cubriendo su cara pero aun viendo a los muchachos, Stitches seguía esperando a que Crash o Félix hicieran algo, Crash también se sentó y miro a sus tenis y Félix miro a los cajones mientras pensaba mucho en algo.

Después de un largo rato de silencio, Félix por fin dijo:

Félix: Ok Woody, ¿Cómo le hago para escalar los cajones?

Woody: ¿Vas a hacerlo entonces?

Félix: Si

Crash y Stitches estaban sorprendidos de escuchar esto, pero Crash era el más sorprendido. Se acerco a Félix y dijo:

Crash: ¿Que estas haciendo?

Félix: Voy a subir allá y buscar a Batman, ¿Qué mas parece que estoy haciendo?

Crash: ¡Pero ya oíste lo que Woody dijo! ¡Es de locos hacer esto!

Félix: Si, lo oí

Crash: ¿Y no te importa si no llegas y terminas herido o destruido?

Félix: Si

Crash: ¡Entonces no estas haciendo ningún sentido!

Félix: Mira, se supone que somos una pandilla, lo cual significa que se supone que nos debemos cuidar el uno al otro. Batman se deprimió cuando descubrió que somos juguetes, y es molesto para ti y para mí el hecho de que no lo acepte, pero nosotros tenemos aceptar el hecho de que siente mal por eso. Hemos llegado muy lejos para buscarlo, y si nos rendimos ahora, no somos sus amigos, y estoy seguro que si fueras tu o yo el que estuviera en su lugar, el no descansaría hasta encontrarnos. Si nos rendimos ahora y después sabemos que algo le paso por que nosotros no hicimos todo lo posible por encontrarlo, entonces no merecemos existir, así que, voy a subir

Crash estaba sorprendido de escuchar tales palabras de Félix, y se dio cuenta cuan en lo cierto estaba, ¿Cómo podían llamarse amigos de Batman si no hacían lo necesario para ayudarlo?

Woody sonrió discretamente al oír las palabras de Félix.

Félix: Woody, ¿Cómo subo?

Woody camino hacia los cajones y saco el más cercano al piso, luego dijo:

Woody: Sube a este y el siguiente cajón se abrirá para que lo alcances, una vez que lo hagas, el verdadero reto comenzara

Félix se acerco al cajón y estaba a punto de subir cuando Crash dijo:

Crash: Vamos contigo Félix, ¿Verdad Stitches?

Stitches: ¡Wa!

Félix: ¿No acabas de decir que esto es de locos?

Crash: Si, pero lo que dijiste es cierto, ¡y no quiero que encuentres a Batman sin mi!

Félix: Muy bien, vamos

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡Ah si! ¿Vas a venir Woody?

Woody: Creo que es mejor que vayan sin mí, no creo que a su amigo le agrade mucho verme, y alguien debería quedarse aquí para hacer guardia, en caso de que algo pase

Crash: Bueno mano

Woody: Buena suerte chicos

Félix subió al cajón que Woody saco, y en cuanto lo hizo, el cajón de arriba se abrió a la mitad.

Félix: Y aquí vamos

Subió lentamente al segundo cajón y una vez que estuvo dentro, espero un momento para ver si algo pasaba pero no fue así. Luego miro hacia abajo y dijo:

Félix: Ok muchachos, ¡suban!

Crash puso a Stitches en su espalda y subió al primer cajón, una vez que estaba dentro, los cajones comenzaron a temblar pero se detuvieron.
Esto asusto a Stitches y Crash, así que procedieron al siguiente cajón donde Félix estaba con cuidado.

Tan pronto como Crash puso su pie en el cajón, todos los cajones comenzaron a agitarse violentamente y de repente se detuvieron.

Crash: Esto me esta dando…

Pero antes de que Crash pudiera terminar su frase, los cuatro cajones arriba de los muchachos comenzaron a moverse hacia delante y atrás, abriendo y cerrándose a una velocidad rápida y cada cajón se movía independiente a los otros tres, haciendo mucho ruido.

Crash: …mala espina

Félix: Yo iré primero

Crash: ¿Qué?

Como el ruido de los cajones era muy fuerte, los muchachos no se podían oír el uno al otro, así que Félix tuvo que gritar lo que dijo:

Félix: ¡Dije que yo iré primero!

Crash: ¡Ok!

Debido a lo rápido que se movían los cajones, Félix tuvo que ser cuidadoso y esperar al momento apropiado para saltar.

Espero hasta que el cajón se cerro y luego salto, el cajón se abrió y Félix logro agarrarse de el, el cajón se volvió a cerrar, jalando a Félix y cuando se volvió a abrir completamente, Félix logro entrar en el.

Habiendo observado como Félix logro meterse al cajón, Crash seguía, dijo:

Crash: ¡Ok Stitches, nuestro turno! ¡Sujétate bien a mí!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡Lo veremos en la cima!

Stitches se sujeto de la espalda de Crash, y Crash salto para agarrar el cajón, pero salto antes y al cajón casi lo golpea en la cara, espero hasta que el cajón se acercara a el de nuevo y salto, esta vez agarrando el cajón, pero cuando trato de entrar en el, el cajón se movió hacia atrás y adelante mas rápido, tratando de deshacerse de Crash. Crash se sostuvo y trato de entrar al cajón cuando se movió hacia delante.

Crash: ¡Eso estuvo cerca!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash miro hacia arriba, mirando como los otros tres cajones encima del se movían y dijo:

Crash: No veo a Félix

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: Espero que no y no lo creo, si hubiera caído, lo habríamos visto y el es un gato, es ágil por naturaleza

De repente Félix apareció, estaba colgando del segundo cajón mas cercano al tope, tratando de entrar en el, miro hacia abajo por un momento y vio a Crash, luego movió su brazo diciéndole que siguiera subiendo y Crash asintió levantando su pulgar.

Félix estaba batallando mucho para llegar al ultimo cajón, ya que del cual colgaba se movía mas rápido que los otros debajo de el, y solo el agarrarse a el ya era difícil. Félix colgó del cajón por un rato hasta que el cajón empezó a reducir su velocidad, cuando Félix noto eso, hizo el esfuerzo y logro entrar en el, y luego miro hacia arriba y dio un suspiro de alivio al notar que solo le faltaba escalar un cajón.

Mientras tanto, Crash y Stitches lograron entrar al tercer cajón más cercano al tope y estaban decididos a entrar al segundo. Crash salto para agarrar el cajón, pero el cajón no se movió lo suficiente para que lo agarrara, se seguía deteniendo a la mitad del camino. Crash decidió esperar hasta que el cajón se moviera a donde el necesitaba que llegara, tomo un rato, pero una vez que lo hizo Crash salto hacia el y el cajón se detuvo súbitamente una vez que Crash logro agarrarlo.
Esto causo que Stitches se soltara de Crash y cayo al cuarto cajón.

Crash: ¡¡Stitches!! ¡¿Estas bien?!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡Espera Stitches, bajare para ir por ti!


Félix ya había logrado llegar al primer cajón y estaba viendo hacia abajo cuando noto que Stitches ya no estaba con Crash, noto que Crash iba a bajar por Stitches y grito:

Félix: ¡Crash! ¡No bajes!

Crash: ¡Pero Stitches esta allá abajo!

Félix: ¡Dile que suba!

Crash: ¡No puede subir solo!

Félix: ¡Si puede!

Crash dudo por un momento que hacer, pero decidió hacer caso de la idea de Félix:

Crash: ¡Stitches, sube a donde estoy!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡No te preocupes, yo te diré cuando saltar!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡Puedes hacerlo, vamos!

Stitches: (Ruidos)

Crash: ¡Solo colócate en el borde del cajón, en la esquina, y espera a que el siguiente cajón este cerca de ti para que puedas saltar!

Stitches se veía asustado, pero estaba dispuesto a intentar llegar a Crash. Salto fuera del cajón y alcanzo el borde, luego se movió hacia la esquina.

Crash: ¡Espera al momento oportuno Stitches… Epa!

El cajón, del cual Crash colgaba, se volvió a mover hacia atrás y delante de nuevo.

Stitches miro hacia arriba y vio a Crash tratando de sostenerse al cajón y a Félix viéndolo, diciéndole que subiera.

Stitches espero a que el cajón encima de el llegara a donde el estaba, y se concentro en estar listo para saltar.

Justo cuando estaba a punto de saltar, un fuerte temblor se sintió e hizo que todo el cuarto temblara. El temblor distrajo a Stitches por que miro hacia abajo para ver que había pasado, luego escucho a Crash gritar:

Crash: ¡¡¡Stitches!!!! ¡¡¡CUIDADO!!!

Tan pronto como Stitches volteo para ver el cajón, venia directo a el, no tuvo tiempo de reaccionar y el cajón lo aventó fuera del borde y cayo.

Antes de que Félix o Crash pudieran ver que había pasado con el, todos los cajones se abrieron completamente, bloqueando toda la vista hacia abajo.
